Adobe acquires privately held Typekit

Typekit is a subscription service that allows developers to use a large library of fonts in their web pages. I'd expect to see TypeKit support in the next version of Dreamweaver (if not sooner as an extension). Adobe agrees to by Nitobi Software, creator of PhoneGap

PhoneGap allows developers to build native, cross platform mobile apps using HTML5 and Javascript. Adobe added support for PhoneGap in Dreamweaver CS5.5 so it's logical to assume we can expect improved PhoneGap support down the road for Dreamweaver and other Adobe apps.

Adobe joins the rush to the Cloud with Creative Cloud

I'm not sure exactly how this fits in so I'll just quote the release, "Adobe Creative Cloud reinvents creative expression by enabling a new generation of services for creativity and publishing, that embrace touch interaction to re-imagine how individuals interact with creative tools and build deeper social connections between creatives around the world.”

Adobe announces six new Touch Apps

Adobe announced Photoshop Touch and five other Touch apps to be used as part of its Cloud initiative. The apps are expected to be available for Android in November. A release date for iOS has yet to be announced.

Update: Added additional Mac OS 10.7 Lion issues 

Mac users of Adobe products will want to check out this list of Known Issues with Adobe products on Mac OS 10.7 Lion.

CS2 and earlier versions not supported under OS X Lion

Most of the issues are minor but this will be bad news to some users: "CS2 or earlier versions of Adobe products required Rosetta to run on newer Intel based mac systems. These older versions will no longer be supported as Apple removed Rosetta support with the 10.7 release." (Which is actually a good thing)

Everyone else will want to check the complete list before upgrading.

Hopefully these issues, most of which have work arounds will be addresses BEFORE Adobe CS6!

Flash Player Supported in Lion

After an initial report to the contrary, Adobe has called, "OOPS!" and reported that "The final release of Mac OS X Lion (10.7) provides the same support for Flash hardware video acceleration as Mac OS X Snow Leopard (10.6)."

Known issues with Office for Mac on MacOS Lion

I know this started out about Adobe products but a lot of us also user Microsoft Word, Excel and Powerpoint so I thought I'd share Microsoft's recent post about Office compatibility issues and Lion. Adobe's announcement of a subscription pricing option for Dreamweaver Cs5.5 and the entire Adobe Creative Suite has generated a lot of discussion and some controversy. Two MacWorld contributors recently took a look and came down on opposite sides of the issue. • It's optional - not required: You can still buy critical software.
• Cheaper: A year's "rental" is less than the cost of the suite.
• Easier on the budget: Monthly payments rather than everything at once.

• Automatic updates: Bug fixes, enhancements and even upgrades are included in the subscription plan.
