Adobe Edge Animation Tool Announced

by James Cook on June 21, 2011

Update: You can now follow Edge updates on the Adobe Edge Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/AdobeEdge

Update: CNET has a brief overview of Edge that offers a bit more info than Adobe's preview page. Check it out here…

Adobe Edge IconAdobe has announced that it's much anticipated CSS3/HTML5 animation tool will soon be available for a public trial. Aobe promises will allow designers to create "expressive, standards-based animation with ease and precision…utilizing the latest web standards like HTML/HTML5, JavaScript and CSS."

For many designers the program may replace flash for creating animated banners and similar content. But Flash, which was recently updated to versions CS5.5, will continue to be the tool of choice for many developers, especially those creating web-based applications.

Adobe has a simple announcement and a video at http://labs.adobe.com/technologies/edge/ and you can get in line (behind me) to receive the public preview (beta) when it becomes available at https://www.adobe.com/cfusion/mmform/index.cfm?name=project_edge

I'm really looking forward to trying this one out.
