Stop "Untitled Document" in Dreamweaver

by James Cook on December 8, 2009

If you're like most folks, you occasionally forget to re-title you pages in Dreamweaver and then look foolish when you end up with pages titled "Untitled Document" (see Google search for "Untitled Document"). I like to check all my page titles before uploading a site but it's a pain to open every document and it doesn't alway happen. It finally occurred to me that I could use Dreamweaver's Search function to simplify the process.

To access a list of all the page titles in your website:

  1. Select menu: Edit>Find and Replace… (or Control+F/Command+F)
  2. In the Find and Replace dialog:
    1. Select Entire Current Local Site from the Find in menu.
    2. Select Specific Tag from the Search menu.
    3. Type "title" into the text field that appears to the right of the Search menu (or select title from the popup menu to the right of the field).
    4. Click the Find All button.

A list of the titles of all pages in your site will appear in the Search tab of the Results palette (generally at the bottom of your screen). If you find an Untitled Document in the list, simply double-click on the search result and the page will open so you can edit the title.
